Testimonials

Steph is a fantastic vocal coach, and over the last few months has really helped me understand and strengthen my voice through teaching me exercises specific for my needs, but also through sharing her own experiences and advice. Steph knows everything there is to know about singing technique and also understands how general lifestyle and health can affect the voice. I would recommend Steph to any singer, whether experienced or just starting out, thank you Steph!

“Daniel has been having lessons with Steph for over 5 years. In that time he has gained such confidence and had great fun with all the songs and techniques that she has taught him. She has not only taught him singing, but stage craft and has also got him through grades 5 and 6 of musical theory, without which he could not have completed his piano exams. He has taken grades 4-8 of the University of West London LCM music exams gaining this year grade 8 at distinction. Not least she has coached him for the aural component of his grade 8 piano in which he also gained a distinction, in fact 19 out of possible 21 marks! But best of all he has hardly known he was working he has enjoyed every moment of it, apparently even theory is fun the way she teaches it. It has given him a huge boost in confidence and a skill that he enjoys which he can use throughout his life as a solo performer or member of a choir.”

"Steph has helped to change my voice after years of classical and opera training. We've found and nurtured my belt and mix in less than 6 months and continue to find exercises that work my voice. At first I wasn't sure if the lessons would work for me because of my classical training, but Steph has built upon what was already there and finds unique ways to warm up my voice and body, and lower my tongue tension. I definitely recommend Steph to anyone who is interested in singing lessons."

I’ve been playing guitar for over 10 years and wanted to progress to the next stage. Rather than just learning to sing I really liked the idea of the live performance showcase that Steph organises as it gave me a clear objective and target to aim for. I had never sang or stood in front of an audience before so was new to it all. Steph was great and helped me with some basic warm up exercises, how to present myself when standing up playing and how to project my voice. Steph then helped me choose the right songs to suit my voice, the correct tempo and key to sing in. One aspect of the lessons that really helped was teaching me how to sing into a microphone and after 4 lessons I had the confidence to sing and play at the showcase in October. I was really impressed with the professional setup at the showcase and the support of Steph and everyone there. The whole experience has given me 3 songs that I know very well and also the confidence to learn new songs using the skills and techniques I’ve learned. Thanks for all your help and guidance Steph and looking forward to the next showcase.

“I last sang in public over 30 years ago. I was never a great singer but could hold a reasonable tune although my intonation and vocal expression was always a bit ‘strangled’. I contacted Steph and explained that I was a songwriter and needed to sing and record some of my own material but given my vocal limitations, I needed my vocal abilities assessed and then improved through some coaching. Together we embarked on a series of exercises and employed techniques to improve the sound and range of my voice. Expression and intonation have also been improved so that I now sing with less of a mechanical approach. By working on the delivery of a number of songs that we chose together, my confidence has been significantly improved to the extent that I recently sang three songs at one of Steph's showcase events."

Hi, my name’s James Kennedy and I’ve played the guitar in bands for around 30yrs. I’ve always loved the idea of singing but was never sure how to get started and never brave enough to let anyone else hear my attempts!

I eventually plucked up the courage and contacted Steph for vocal coaching. Steph immediately made me feel at ease with her warm personality and brilliant teaching style. I’ve had lessons for around a year and a half and am really proud of how much progress I’ve made thanks to Steph, all the way from my early uncertainty to now pulling together my own acoustic set!

The live showcase events Steph arranges are also a great experience and confidence booster; joining other students to hear and celebrate everyone’s progress is great fun.

So all in all a very positive experience and I highly recommend Steph’s vocal coaching if you are thinking of taking that next step!
